The Olivo was Stuttgart's only two-star restaurant. It no longer exists; the Steigenberger Graf Zeppelin houses La Brasserie today.

What became of the Olivo

The Olivo, inside the Steigenberger Graf Zeppelin across from the main train station, is gone. Chef Anton Gschwendtner left in August 2021 for the Bayerischer Hof in Munich, and the Stuttgart press ran the story as two Michelin stars lost for the city. The restaurant no longer appears in the 2026 Michelin Guide, and the hotel no longer lists it among its dining options.

No official closing date was ever announced. We keep this page online because the Olivo carried a real name in Stuttgart, and because plenty of people are still searching for it.

The history: Stuttgart's only double star

In March 2020 the Olivo received its second Michelin star, making it the only two-star house in the city. In November 2020 it reopened in new rooms within the hotel, still under Anton Gschwendtner. The cooking was modern French with Asian and Japanese influences.

What the hotel serves instead

The Steigenberger Graf Zeppelin today houses La Brasserie Restaurant & Bar, a French brasserie under chef Georgios Papagiannis. It is its own concept rather than a renamed Olivo, and you should not expect the starred level of the old restaurant there.

If you are looking for starred cooking in Stuttgart: the Speisemeisterei at Schloss Hohenheim holds two stars, while the 5 on Bolzstraße and the Wielandshöhe hold one each.
